Confidence

Power. We all want it, but what IS it?

Power. We all want it, but what IS it?

Power. It’s a big & loaded word, but what does it mean really?

In the past I would have understood power as my ability to get what I want, have what I want, and as money, success, influence, connection, position, status. If I was failing at these things I was not powerful. Or at the least, there were so many people out there with so much more power than me.

Then, as my spiritual practice and understanding deepened I realized that in fact, true power lay first and foremost in my ability to reside in a beautiful, clear, loving yet unattached state of being, no matter what.

This continues to be true.

And - my understanding also continues to deepen…

The Myth of Failure

The Myth of Failure

In my journey of training and working as a professional dancer, the most harried learning curve I had to make it through was that of my fear of failing. It nearly broke me, and many times over.

What I realize today, many years later, is that while I did - thankfully - make it through that particular form of the challenge, everyday, every year, new and different shapes of this same challenge are showing up

I’m also realizing that, as I am able to see more clearly where and how the fear of failing is still present in my life, the very concept of ‘failure’ is starting to fall away. I’m not sure a more relieving experience exists than this, of gradually understanding that one’s worst fear - or at least one of them - is not even a real possibility but simply a misunderstood distortion of the mind.

The Power of a Bow: Priming All Parts of Your Brain for Meaningful Action

The wonder of movement is that it connects with and impacts both our limbic and reptilian brains. In this practice, when you connect the movement with your intention, you are allowing the impact of your intention to resonate through not just your thinking mind but the whole of your human self. Frozen by Fear of What Others Think of You?

Have you ever been frozen by the fear of what others were thinking of you?

As a professional dancer, I went through a lot of my training obsessed with those around me were thinking of me, hanging off of every word that my teachers said to make or break my spirits. It was a brutal and debilitating pattern to be stuck in.

In reaching out for help I needed though, I gradually gained and mastered the mindsets and tools I needed to shift this.

The secret lay in learning how to return again and again to what was happening for me on the INSIDE - staying connected to what I was feeling in my body.
